THE FIRST EXCHANGE day2.morning.heading
MORNING REFLECTION day2.morning.heading

We long to know the truth about how to access a life of fulfillment, but left to our human nature, we try to find that truth and power in ways that will never give life.

day2.morning.p1

In **Romans 1:21–23, 25**, the Apostle Paul tells us why:

day2.morning.p2
"Even though they knew God, they did not honor Him as God or give thanks, but they became futile in their reasonings, and their senseless hearts were hardened. Claiming to be wise, they became fools, and they exchanged the glory of the incorruptible God for an image in the form of corruptible mankind … For they exchanged the truth of God for falsehood, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen."
day2.morning.p3.epigraph

When God made mankind, they enjoyed seamless intimacy with the God of the universe. In the Garden of Eden, however, Adam and Eve chose not to honor God and began to worship the "creature." Even though they knew God, they did not honor Him. They broke communion with Him. That's bizarre to even imagine, isn't it? They were able to experience life with God face-to-face with no disruption, yet they stopped honoring Him as God when they began to listen to and yield to the enemy. It says, "they exchanged the truth of God for a lie" (Romans 1:25). This is all of mankind; before the truth of salvation is revealed to us, we are all worshiping and serving the creature, and we have all exchanged God's truth for a lie. Mankind stopped honoring Him and became futile in their speculations.

day2.morning.p4

What does futility mean? It means pointless or useless. When we depend on our way of thinking and our understanding of life apart from God, it's useless. These ways of independence are rooted in humanity's limited understanding, called speculations. Our speculations are not true and life-giving understanding, and to live our lives is useless because we cannot produce life-giving good apart from Him.

day2.morning.p5

We are looking for truth — the truth about how to live a life of fullness. But apart from God we define truth by our own existence, making up our own rules for how life should be lived. Living without connecting and yielding to God is what His Word says has no power, since He's the One who created true life. Think about how many man-made solutions we come up with for man-made problems, which only produce more problems. Living apart from God is useless — futile — and brings darkness to our hearts. It may be using strong language, but this is what the Word of God says!

day2.morning.p6

When Adam and Eve chose not to honor God, they actually made a choice to stop worshipping Him and began to worship themselves. The word *worship* doesn't just mean you go to church on Sunday, sing some songs, and then check the box that you've completed it. To worship something means to devote yourself to that which has your attention and affection. To worship God means that we abandon our own understanding, yielding our affection, our own way of living, our lives, our entire selves and affection, yielding to Him as the Truth. This Exchange message is ultimately about making the choice to yield to God.

day2.morning.p7
**To worship something means to devote yourself to that which has your attention and affection.**
day2.morning.p8.epigraph

God is the only One worthy of our worship. He is the only Righteous One who created us and redeemed us because He loves us so! He created us to be in communion with Him and through that communion, His beauty would be expressed to a family He desires to share it with. He designed the way the world would work according to His nature.

day2.morning.p9

To not align with His design through giving ourselves to Him is foolishness since He made us in His image and knows what He designed us for. Fullness for us comes through receiving the Creator's purpose and living it in the highest way. It comes down to this: Who are you going to worship? Are you going to worship God or are you going to worship yourself, which, ultimately, is the enemy, satan. Choosing to live independently from God is what the serpent convinced Eve to do, and Eve convinced Adam.

day2.morning.p10

If I could boil down the entire gospel, it comes down to that. There's the devil and there's God, and One deserves worship and one does not but is always trying to get us to elevate ourselves above Him. In the garden, Adam and Eve desired their own understanding to be above God. The moment they decided this, they separated from God. That's what the enemy wants to do to us all the time — to cause us to doubt God's goodness.

day2.morning.p11

If we allow that voice to lie to us about God, then we elevate our own understanding above trusting God and we position ourselves as God. It is critical that we watch over our hearts! Worshipping or honoring, and trusting God keeps us rightly positioned for fulfilling the call of God in our lives… that is having the fear of the Lord!

day2.morning.p12
INVITATION FOR THE DAY day2.invitation.heading

Find a way today to give God your attention and affection.

Where he was dull, now he was alive
The Swedish word 'trög' primarily implies being slow-witted, sluggish, or unintelligent, whereas 'dull' in this spiritual context means numb, unresponsive, or deadened.
gpt
then revelation comes into your being
→ då kommer uppenbarelsen in i ditt väsen
This is understandable but sounds like a direct English calque and is unusually abstract in Swedish devotional prose.
→ då får du uppenbarelse i ditt inre
gpt
Where he was dull, now he was alive
“Trög” can sound like intellectually slow or stupid rather than spiritually dull or veiled.
gpt
We were created to be known and loved to the fullest extent
“Vara kända” can read as “be famous” unless the sense of being fully known is made clearer.
gemini
pulls back the veil of your understanding
→ drar Anden undan slöjan från din förståelse
Using the preposition 'från' is a slight calque; in Swedish, a veil covering something is more naturally expressed as 'slöjan för'.
→ drar Anden undan slöjan för din förståelse

gpt
The fullness of the Good News
→ Det glada budskapets fullhet
alts: Evangeliets fullhet · De goda nyheternas fullhet
“Det glada budskapet” is a valid rendering of “Good News,” but in Swedish Christian usage “evangeliet” may sound more natural and theologically established.
gpt
to love the Greatest One to our fullest capacity
The Swedish uses a familiar biblical idiom rather than a literal rendering of “fullest capacity”; this is not wrong, but it slightly shifts the image.
gemini
to love the Greatest One to our fullest capacity
The translator wisely chose a dynamic, biblical idiom ('av hela vårt hjärta') over a literal, mechanical translation ('kapacitet'). This is a strong choice that elevates the devotional tone.
gemini
revelation comes into your being
→ kommer uppenbarelsen in i ditt väsen
alts: kommer uppenbarelsen in i ditt inre
Using 'väsen' gives the text a slightly more profound or mystical tone compared to the more common 'inre', but it fits the charismatic focus on revelation perfectly.

for every issue
→ i varje fråga
“Fråga” sounds like an abstract question/topic, while the English refers to concrete life issues or areas of need.
→ i varje område
God's embedded blueprint of needing deep communion with Him
“Ritning av att behöva” is unnatural Swedish and obscures the intended idea of a God-given design for communion.
Flagged by one auditor only
gpt
We have to deal with those issues first.
→ Vi måste hantera de frågorna först.
Again, “frågorna” is a stiff or slightly misleading rendering for personal wounds, lies, or areas that must be addressed.
gpt
places of lack
→ platser av brist
The phrase is understandable but reads like an English calque rather than idiomatic Swedish.
→ bristområden
gpt
This belief that it is up to you
The Swedish construction is grammatically stiff and lacks the natural “om att” needed here.
gpt
our triggers stop us from being able to move through life
“Triggers” is common in some Swedish contexts but may feel unnecessarily Anglicized in devotional prose.
gemini
The way we are filled up to all the fullness is by knowing the love of Christ.
Starting a sentence with 'Sättet vi...' is an English calque ('The way we...'). It sounds stiff and anglicized in Swedish.
gemini
I am going to do whatever it takes for me to be okay.
'Att det ska gå bra för mig' implies achieving success or prosperity, while the context is about survival and coping (better captured by 'klara mig' as used in the following paragraph).
gemini
This belief that it is up to you is the root of our humanity without God.
The Swedish word 'mänsklighet' translates to 'mankind' or 'humane compassion', whereas the text is referring to the fallen human condition or human nature.
Linguistic choices (preserved for you)
gpt
in Him you have been made complete
This appears to follow an established Swedish Bible rendering and fits the chapter's theme of fullness, though it shifts the English “made complete” toward “filled.”
gpt
sexually abused
→ sexuellt utnyttjad
alts: sexuellt utsatt · sexuellt övergrepp · utsatt för sexuella övergrepp
“Sexuellt utnyttjad” is a valid rendering, but “utsatt för sexuella övergrepp” may be clearer and stronger depending on the intended register.
gpt
beliefs
→ övertygelser
alts: föreställningar · trossatser · grundantaganden
“Övertygelser” is accurate, but in this psychological/devotional context “föreställningar” or “grundantaganden” could sound more natural in some sentences.
gpt
an area of your life that you need His love to fill
The translation is understandable, but the Swedish syntax is a bit heavy; the alternatives preserve the devotional invitation with smoother phrasing.
gemini
All of God is in Christ, who is in you...
'Hela Gud' is a literal and colloquial rendering of 'All of God'. It works for a conversational devotional tone, but some editors might prefer a more established theological phrasing.

seamless intimacy
→ sömlös intimitet
This is a literal calque that sounds unnatural in Swedish devotional prose.
→ obruten närhet
Flagged by one auditor only
gpt
they did not honor Him as God or give thanks
The Bible quotation changes “honor” to “praise,” which is a meaning shift in a cited Scripture text.
gpt
What does futility mean? It means pointless or useless.
→ Vad betyder tomhet? Det betyder meningslöst eller oanvändbart.
The key term “futility” is shifted to “emptiness,” which weakens and redirects the argument being explained.
→ Vad betyder fåfänglighet? Det betyder meningslöshet eller något utan nytta.
gpt
Any area of our life He has access through (through God's empowerment) accuser can be reclaimed.
The Swedish supplies a coherent meaning from a visibly corrupt English sentence, so this should be checked against the manuscript before approval.
gemini
lovers of God
→ Guds älskare
In Swedish, the word 'älskare' almost exclusively means a romantic or sexual paramour, creating a highly inappropriate connotation in a religious context.
→ människor som älskar Gud
gpt
lovers of God
→ Guds älskare
The phrase is understandable but sounds odd and overly literal in Swedish.
→ människor som älskar Gud
gpt
living it in the highest way
→ leva ut det på det högsta sättet
The phrase is stiff and idiomatically weak in Swedish.
→ leva ut det fullt ut
gpt
Choosing to live independently from God is what the serpent convinced Eve to do, and Eve convinced Adam.
The Swedish leaves the second half syntactically unfinished and slightly unclear.
gpt
the good news of Christ
→ de goda nyheterna om Kristus
“De goda nyheterna” is understandable but less natural than established Swedish Christian register.
→ det glada budskapet om Kristus
gemini
a life of fulfillment
→ ett liv i uppfyllelse
'Uppfyllelse' is typically used for the fulfillment of prophecies or wishes; using it for personal fulfillment is an anglicism.
→ ett meningsfullt liv
gpt
one does not but is always trying to get us to elevate ourselves above Him
The pronoun “honom” can be read as referring to the devil rather than God, which obscures the theological point that self-exaltation is against God.
Linguistic choices (preserved for you)
gpt
exchange
→ utbyte
alts: byte · det heliga bytet · förvandlande utbyte
“Utbyte” is valid and works for the title, but the editor may want to decide whether the central metaphor should sound more relational, transactional, or devotional across the whole book.
gpt
fullness / fulfillment
→ fullhet / uppfyllelse
alts: fullhet · fullkomlighet · mättnad · uppfyllelse
The Swedish distinguishes the terms reasonably, but the book uses them as a recurring theological motif, so consistency should be governed by a term list.
gpt
co-labor with God
“Samverka” is defensible, but it can sound institutional; “samarbeta” or “vara Guds medarbetare” may feel warmer and more devotional.
gpt
communion
→ gemenskap
alts: nära gemenskap · förtrolig gemenskap · andlig gemenskap
“Gemenskap” is the natural Swedish choice, but it is broader and less intimate than “communion,” so some contexts may benefit from a qualifier.
gemini
What does futility mean? It means pointless or useless.
→ Vad betyder tomhet? Det betyder meningslöst eller oanvändbart.
alts: meningslöshet · fåfänglighet
The translator wisely adapted 'futility' to 'tomhet' to match the Swedish Bible's rendering of Romans 1:21 ('tomma i sina resonemang'), maintaining scriptural consistency even though 'tomhet' literally means 'emptiness'.
gemini
journal area
→ utrymmet för journalskrivning
alts: anteckningsutrymmet · dagboksdelen
'Journalskrivning' is slightly clunky but accurately conveys the specific devotional practice of journaling, which lacks a perfect single-word equivalent in Swedish.
gemini
co-labor with Him
→ samverka med honom
alts: arbeta tillsammans med honom · medarbeta med honom
'Samverka' captures the collaborative essence well, though 'medarbeta' is another common Swedish Christian term for co-laboring with God.
